But I think you are right, there is a disconnect between requested size of allocation (which doesn't have to be a multiple of PAGE_SIZE), and actual page size-aligned VMA size. We don't seem to keep track of the original requested memory size. So yes, a simple "fix" would be to temporarily unpoison and memset. I'll send a patch, don't know if mm/kasan folks would have any better suggestions.
