Performance update: test7, 8-1, 8-2 ...

Another performance update using various benchmarks. New results
for test7 (final), test8 pre1 and pre2. In the following,
TEST7-5 is test7-pre5 patch. TEST7 is final. TEST8-1 & -2 are test8 pre1
and pre2 respectively.

Observations
------------

 o test5 continues to yield the best performance.
 o test5 -> test6 (and in test7-5) block I/O performance degraded about 10%.
 o test7 block I/O degraded further and showing more variance.
 o considering best results in each kernel version,
   dbench results in test5 are better than any recent kernel
   (test6, 7, 8-1, 8-2) by about 30%
 o In test8-1/2 reads using larger chunk sizes are slower! Example, reading
   1024K at-a-time can be slower than 4K at-a-time by about 10%

All numbers on a 2P 64MB X86 box using a dedicated scsi disk for the tests
containing an EXT2 filesystem. All tests were run 3 times, in some cases
individual results from 3 runs are reported; in others a range is given.
