I am part of the set of networking developers and also now part of the team at Microsoft providing Linux integration. The team does lots of stuff to make Linux run better on Hyper-V and Azure as well as contributing to other upstream projects. As the Linux bridge maintainer, I am also concerned with all the network glue layers that are holding OpenStack and containers together. Linux has done a good job of providing networking components, and that it is like a box of parts in the drawer being stuck together. It works, but the performance and maintainability suffer. This is not just unique to network devices; the topic applies to cgroups, storage and other services.
